We’re looking for volunteers from all over the world who want to have fun, make friends and gain qualifications. Each year we recruit up to 100 volunteers from over 30 countries to help run our Scout Activity Centres across the UK.
What will I be doing?
Our volunteers help with all aspects of running our centres so no two days will ever be the same! You could be doing anything from leading a kayaking session to checking-in guests, cleaning lodges and bathrooms or running a wide game for 50 Scouts. You’ll be responsible for helping our visitors have a quality experience at Scout Activity Centres and going that extra mile to make their stay amazing.
Where will I be based?
You’ll get a spot at one of six Scout Activity Centres in the UK. Our Scout Activity Centres are in prime locations for people looking for outdoor adventure which means the view from your room could be anything from acres of beautiful woodland to lakes that stretch as far as the eye can see!
How long can I stay?
Our long-term volunteers stay for placements of two, five, eight or 12 months at a time. Available placements vary from centre to centre but our main volunteer intakes are in March for the summer season and September for the winter.
Our placement dates for 2016 are as follows:
|Intake||Arrival weekend||Placement dates||Departure weekend|
|June 2016||28th/29th May||5 months: 30th May – 28th October||29th/30th October|
|July 2016(Gilwell Park only)||11th/12th July||2 months: 15th July – 16th September||17th/18th September|
|September 2016||27th/28th August||8 months: 29th August – 28th April 2017
12 months: 29th August – 24th August 2017
|29th/30th April 2017
25th/26th August 2017
In return for your hard work we’ll provide all food, accommodation and uniform for the duration of your placement. All volunteers also receive a weekly allowance to cover out-of-pocket expenses. You’ll receive comprehensive training and experience across a wide range of areas and the opportunity to attend accredited courses and gain recognised qualifications.
Can I apply?
Absolutely! You might be on a gap year, taking a break from the world of work or just looking to flex your volunteering muscles and get some work experience – either way we want to hear from you.
We don’t ask for specific qualifications or experience – we’re just looking for bags of energy and enthusiasm, a passion for creating safe and exciting experiences for our visitors and a willingness to be outdoors – whatever the weather!
